Chores ᐧ 12 The Warm
12 The Warm
Words by Shaina Yang
In my waipo’s house there’s no central heating
only the rickety space heater rolled out for my visits
that turns meekly back and forth between our huddled knees
Her warmth she prefers vested close to her tiny frame
in layers of coats I outgrew
and sweaters she hand knit back before the tremors set in
My warmth meanwhile I want filling the whole house
softening its hard-shelled corners for curling up
and demarcating outdoors from in
But our versions become each other’s
when I visit
sometimes shivering but never cold
Chores is a collection of eighteen hand-embroidered vintage chore coats, celebrating the beauty of earnest labor. Each piece is a vintage garment transformed through a unique pattern of hand-embroidery, inspired by the unintentional yet beautiful splatters left on an old painting smock.
Because they are vintage pieces, each coat is slightly different in size, fabric, and condition.
12 The Warm measures:
|Cross Chest||23.5" (47" Bust)|
The fabric is a midweight cotton twill with black stitching, hard-wearing with a structured drape. It is in great condition, with no noticeable wear and tear except for two subtle reddish-orange paint stains (one near the right wrist, and one on the third button). The embroidery is designed to accompany these original paint stains.
Please hand wash cold with mild detergent, and line dry. Warm iron on reverse with a little steam.
Joy's brother Justin (in photos) is 5'5" tall and measures:
|Cross Chest||17" (34" Bust)|

Please note: If any one pricing tier is marked as "sold out," the item is no longer available. This is due to a quirk in the website's inventory management system that Joy has yet to find a good solution for. Thank you for understanding!
