Chores ᐧ 19 No matter

$1,080.00

No matter
then, for what’s a little lateness when we’re
kissed by the sun like this, all windswept and
giggling, droplets drying to salt on skin
we’ve shed three times since we first met, if that
seven year statistic is one that we
believe. Out here we play, ageless in the
sun, now and forever from dawn till dusk —
except of course we’re running a little
late — so maybe more like from noon till moon.

Scatters of stitches and beads enshrine the visible remnants of 19 No matter’s wear by using decorative stitching to highlight small rips throughout, as well as the traces of an unknown patch on the jacket’s back now lost to time. On the inner lining, the fabric is visibly mended to reveal hazy ghosts of previous tears; meanwhile, the comforting message of the coat’s name is placed where the wearer can read it as a reminder whenever they look down.

Garment measures 49" cross chest (side seam to side seam), 25.5" body length (high point shoulder to hem). Made from a vintage 100% cotton chore coat, cotton embroidery floss, glass beads, and lining reconstructed from antique indigo-dyed cotton fabric scraps. Please dry clean or hand wash cold with mild detergent and line dry, warm iron on reverse with a little steam.

Chores  ᐧ  Collection 2  ᐧ  Season 1 (2023, No. 19-28)

Made in collaboration with architect and poet Shaina Yang
and patternmaker Lorraine Lum

This season contains ten embroidered vintage chore coats with reconstructed linings, patchworked from antique indigo-dyed fabric scraps.

Each coat was embroidered in tandem with a corresponding poem written from a memory of the seaside — the seaside providing a consistent backdrop across shifting eras and emotions. Together, they recollect the ways in which our surroundings can witness, support, or even force changes happening on the inside.
